Fearthainn – Rain

A grey shawl with a cabled spine, a garter stitch body with slipped stitch detail and chevron detail on the edge.Rain, rain, rain… That’s pretty much what it’s done for the last week here – it almost makes me want to go back to the colder frosty mornings! At this time of year, we all need something cosy to snuggle into so I came up with Fearthainn. It’s DK weight so it’s nice and cosy but still thin enough to wrap up in nicely. I’ve included directions to make it in three sizes, but also included instructions so you can adapt it to any size you like! The one skein size is great as a scarf and for wearing under a coat, but I have a huge soft spot for the three skein size – mine is on the back of my computer chair, and anytime I get cold I wrap it round me while I work and snuggle in!

I unvented this gorgeous stitch to look like rain and the shawl has a cascading waterfall cable down the spine. Its a Faroese style shawl with a wide spine and very long wings which makes it really easy to wrap around and keep in place without using a shawl pin. If you’re new to cables this is a really easy pattern to get to grips with them, and the textured pattern on the wings is very easy and rhythmic once you get started. It’s a great relaxing knit – perfect for knit night, or relaxing with on the sofa after a long day! I am especially pleased with the border which I designed to continue the rain pattern right to the very edge and I love the interest the points give. If you aren’t keen on points though you could block them into scallops which would be gorgeous!

A close up on the chevron and slipped stitch edge of FearthainnI used a new to me yarn for Fearthainn – Third Vault Yarns’ Glow DK in Buckbeak. It’s 100% Bluefaced Leicester, which is one of my favourite fibres, and the yarn is absolutely gorgeous to work with and beautifully soft while still having structure. Buckbeak is on Lola’s Dye to Order list too, so if you really want some of your own, you know where to go!

Burnished Copper

For my latest pair of fingerless mitts I really wanted to play with twisted rib again. I also really wanted to make another pair similar to Dealas with a textured pattern across the back of the hand. So I combined the two ideas and we got Coppersmith! It’s a really fun pattern and once you’re
